A total of 24 Florida Atlantic University High School students have been named semifinalists in the 2022 National Merit Scholarship Competition. This honor and recognition is a source of pride for our school as only about 16,000 students of approximately 1.6 million program national participants attain this distinction. To become a National Merit semifinalist, more than 1.5 million high school juniors took the 2020 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT). The highest-scoring entrants in each state were named semifinalists and represent less than 1 percent of U.S. high school seniors.

To become a National Merit finalist, each semifinalist must submit a detailed scholarship application, which includes their academic record, extracurricular activities, demonstrated leadership abilities, employment, honors and awards. They also must be endorsed by a high school official, write an essay, and perform well on the SAT. Finalists will be notified in February 2022, and the 2022 National Merit Scholarship winners will be announced in the summer of 2022.

These Semifinalists will be progressing through the rigorous application process as they work towards Finalist and Scholar status with NMSC. Congratulations Students!

We are honored to recognize the following 32 seniors who have been named Commended Students in the 2022 National Merit Scholarship Program. About 34,000 Commended Students throughout the nation are being recognized for their exceptional academic promise. Although they will not continue in the 2022 competition for National Merit Scholarship awards, Commended students placed among the top 50,000 scorers of more than 1.5 million students who entered the 2022 Competition by taking the 2020 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT (R) . “Those being named Commended Students have demonstrated outstanding potential for academic success,” commented a spokesperson from NMSC. “These students represent a valuable national resource; recognizing their accomplishments, as well as the key role their schools play in their academic development, is vital to the advancement of educational excellence in our nation. We hope that this recognition will help broaden their educational opportunities and encourage them as they continue their pursuit of academic success.”
