LETTER FROM THE SUPERINTENDENT

Wednesday, Mar 16, 2022

Dear A.D. Henderson and FAU High School Parents,

As we draw near to the final quarter of the school year, I wish to express my gratitude for your support of our school, teachers and staff. There are many exciting developments on the horizon that would not have been possible without your assistance.

One of these exciting developments is the long awaited new facility. You have witnessed the daily progress and the end of Phase I is in sight. We thank you for your incredible patience in handling all of the inconveniences along the way.

Once Phase I of construction is complete, we anticipate breaking ground on Phase II this summer.  The plan for Phase II consists of a 15,000 square foot STEM and student presentation hall, a Biodesign Lab, an Aquatic complex, a Track & Field complex, and teacher training spaces. The design and construction of the new facilities come with much planning and commitment to creating unique spaces for students to thrive.

We could not do it without the support of FAU and our construction management team led by Numa Rais, Director, FAU Design Services and Construction, our builder, Moss & Associates, and architect, Harvard Jolly Architecture.  This partnership will provide a school worthy of replication.

Through all of the challenges of construction, a pandemic, and the ever-increasing demands placed on education, our faculty maintains a keen focus on teaching and learning. Our students in grades 3-10 are preparing for the upcoming Florida Standards Assessment (FSA) and End-of-Course (EOC) examinations.  Please support us in encouraging your child to do their very best on these assessments.

Several staffing changes and shifts in roles are also anticipated for the next school year. We are hiring a few new faculty and staff to fill current and projected openings. We have also been busy developing partnerships and projects that are impacting changes in roles next year. One of which is our Principal/Director, Sherry Bees, will be transitioning into solely director responsibilities over several new initiatives.  I wish to thank Mrs. Bees for working tirelessly to continue building on our school's success.  During the next few months, we will begin our search for an excellent candidate to become the next Principal of A.D. Henderson and FAU High School, and lead the team in this exciting next phase of its development.  We will inform you of the outcome of the national recruitment process and other staff changes later in the year.

Thank you for your continued support of our school and our efforts to provide our students with the best possible outcomes and opportunities.

Sincerely,

Joel Herbst, Superintendent of Schools
