Solar Eclipse Reminder from The Cane Institute
Friday, Apr 05, 2024
On Monday, April 8, 2024, we will experience a partial solar eclipse. In Boca Raton, the partial eclipse will begin at 1:48 pm, reach its maximum at 3:02 pm, blocking about 57% of the sun from view, and end at 4:14 pm.
All students will watch a safety video about the solar eclipse on Monday and then receive official solar eclipse viewing glasses from their teacher. The solar eclipse glasses that will be distributed are listed on the AAS website, have the proper ISO number and external lab certification, and have passed in-lab testing. Additionally, we used our laser cutter to make over 300 paper plate solar shields to further protect some of our youngest Owls.
Our solar eclipse school-wide viewing plan will not impact dismissal in any way. Elementary and middle school students will participate in a school-wide event to view the partial eclipse immediately before dismissal. High school students will receive solar eclipse glasses as they leave campus.
Parents, we ask that you refrain from viewing the eclipse while in car line for our students' safety. At no time during this partial eclipse is it safe to look directly at the sun without special solar eclipse viewing glasses. Once you pick up your child, please find a safe spot off campus to view the partial solar eclipse.
